Who can use the libraries of the HSLU?

The libraries of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (=HSLU) are available to all members and students of the HSLU as well as the general public. In order to use the library services (such as borrowing books, access e-books, ordering copies etc.), you need a SWITCH edu-ID account and must be registered to SLSP.

Members of the Zug-Rotkreuz Campus have 24/7 access to the library in Rotkreuz with their HSLU-Card. For external students, the library is accessible during the regular opening hours of the building.

More detailed information about the registration process as well as about the SWITCH edu-ID is provided in our video tutorial "Creating a Library Account" (German with English subtitles).

I am no longer a student at HLSU. Can I continue to use the library?

Yes, you can continue to use the HSLU libraries after leaving. Please make sure that you have your contact details (at least a private e-mail address) are updated in your SWITCH edu-ID account so that we can still contact you once the link with your HSLU account expires.

The SWITCH edu-ID account can still be used for logging in. As a user card, you can either continue to use your HSLU legitimation card or obtain an SLSP user card free of charge from the library.

How can I register with the HSLU libraries?

To obtain media, users must open an eduid account and register with SLSP. If you already have a library card, you can enter the number when registering and continue to use the card to access media. If you have not got a library card yet, you can leave the corresponding field blank and obtain a card on your first visit to the library. This is free of charge and valid in all SLSP libraries throughout Switzerland.

Do I need a user card in order to use the libary's services?

You need a user card as soon as you want to borrow physical media.
You can either use your legitimation cards from the following institutions as a user card or pick up a user card from us free of charge:
- Swiss universities
- Swiss universities of applied sciences
- Bibliopass
It is important that the number of the user card is stored in your account.

I have lost my user card, what do I have to do now?

No problem. Come to our library (or another ZHB/HSLU library) and ask at the information desk for a new user card. This is free of charge.
Please note that you can also use legitimation cards from the following institutions as a user card:
- Swiss universities
- Swiss universities of applied sciences
- Bibliopass

I forgot to add my library card when I registered. What do I do now?

The library user card can be added anytime after the registration. To do so, log in to your library account using Switch edu-ID. Then click on "Personal details" and select the link "Manage library card".

The link will take you to an SLSP swisscovery page where you will need to log in using your Switch edu-ID. In the section "Manage library cards" you can add the number of your library card and delete any outdated card numbers.

Please note that changes made on this page are only active in the library system after a few minutes.

This process is also explained in our video tutorial "Creating a Library Account" (German with English subtitles).

I forgot to add my library card when I registered. What do I do now?

If you have forgotten your password or would like to change it, you can reset it via Switch Edu-ID.

How can I change my contact details?

Have you moved and therefore have a new address?
Have you changed your email address or telephone number?

You can update your details in your Switch edu-ID account at any time.

Unfortunately, the library staff is not able to make these changes for you, but will be happy to assist if you have any questions.

I have two postal addresses in my account. How can I determine which one I prefer?

To do this, log in to your library account using Switch edu-ID. Then click on "Personal details" and select the link "Manage library card".
The link will take you to a page of SLSP swisscovery where you have to log in with your Switch edu-ID. In the section "Settings" you can now choose which address should be preferred by the libraries.
Please note that changes made on this page are only active in the library system after a few minutes.

My account is blocked, what should I do?

This can be due to various reasons, such as too many reminded media, incorrect address, etc. The best thing is to contact our library directly, we will be happy to help you.
